Resources for Pastors and Elders Friday, October 19, 2007 (0 reads)
The Company of Pastors and the Order of Elders The Company of Pastors and The Order of Elders were established by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to help pastors and elders think prayerfully and practically about the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit, so that they can assist church members in doing the same. The Company of Pastors Your congregation expects many things from you: preacher, teacher, programmer, manager, counselor! And you do a lot to meet those expectations. But what about the desire you have to help people think prayerfully and practically about the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit? In fact, what about the desire you have to do that for yourself so that you will be prepared to help others? You know you're not alone, but it often feels like it. In response to such expressed needs of Presbyterian pastors, the Office of Theology and Worship has established The Company of Pastors. The Company of Pastors is open to all ministers, commissioned lay pastors and Christian educators. Those who join The Company commit themselves to daily disciplines of prayer, reading of Scripture and The Book of Confessions. Members also agree to be part of a book subscription program through which they will, three times a year, buy and read selected books of theological significance for pastors. As well, they will receive a subscription to The Register, a journal of theology written by and for pastors. Read more about the Company of Pastors The Order of Elders
When you and/or your session join The Order of Elders, you will have a new way of living the promises you made upon your ordination, most particularly being a friend to those with whom you serve. This program is designed to encourage your desire to serve as faithful elders through daily disciplines of reading Scripture, daily prayer, daily reflection on one of the church’s confessions, and reading books concerning issues of faith and life that are central to Christian ministry. The Order of Elders is open to all elders, whether you are currently serving on session or resting between terms. Read more about the Order of Elders |

Volunteers Needed in New Orleans Tuesday, October 02, 2007 (131 reads)
Calling All Volunteers!
For a rewarding mission trip to New Orleans Fall 2007 and Spring 2008
Project Homecoming, the rebuilding effort of the Presbytery of Louisiana, sends this urgent call to all churches to organize a mission trip to continue our home rebuilding efforts. We need volunteers with all levels of building skills.
We need to continue with our current successes in rebuilding homes of Katrina-displaced families that are anxious to return and do not have the resources to rebuild.
All skills and skill levels are urgently needed from helpers to those who want to quickly learn to paint, hang drywall or do the many levels of carpentry, plumbing or electrical work.
To answer your questions or to inquire about housing, email Susan@pslrecovery.org, or call 504.942.0444. More information can be found at the Presbytery of Southern Louisiana website. Read More |
